Stop Hiring AI Agencies

· 3 min read

The AI agency model is broken. Most agencies sell template-based solutions built on a single platform, applied to every client regardless of their actual operations.

The template problem

Most AI agencies have a tech stack they know — usually a single platform like GoHighLevel or a handful of no-code tools — and they apply that stack to every client. They don't start with your business. They start with their tools, then look for places to use them.

It's like hiring a contractor who only knows how to use one brand of hammer. They'll find a way to use that hammer on everything. Need a screw driven? They'll try the hammer. Need a wall painted? They'll figure out a way to involve the hammer. The result might technically "work," but it's never the right solution.

What the right approach looks like

Look for someone who starts with your business, not their tech stack. Someone who spends time understanding how your operation actually works before proposing any solution. Someone who can say "you don't need AI here" as easily as "this is where AI will transform your operation."

The right partner is tool-agnostic and outcome-obsessed. They should be able to recommend a spreadsheet solution when that's what fits, or a custom integration when that's what's needed, or a commercial AI product when that's the right call. The tool follows the architecture, not the other way around.

If someone's first move is to show you their platform, keep looking. If their first move is to ask about your processes, your bottlenecks, and your goals — you might be in the right place.
